Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka was fined $50,000 by the NBA on Thursday, two days after his actions during the team’s 120-111 loss to the Sacramento Kings in an NBA Cup game.
Udoka was penalised for confronting and addressing foul language to a game referee, failing to leave the court in a timely manner after being ejected and receiving public criticism of refereeing.
Udoka was not alone, as forward Tari Eason was fined $35,000 by the NBA for throwing a towel and using inappropriate language towards a fan after the game. In addition, Sengun found himself $15,000 lighter in the wallet by the league after addressing inappropriate language to a game referee.
Udoka and Sengun were both given technical fouls and ejected with 1:52 remaining in the fourth quarter on Tuesday.
Udoka made no bones about letting reporters know what he thought referee John Goble called the game.
‘Missed calls, blatant missed calls right in front of you,’ Udoka said. ‘You’re calling ticky tack moving blocks, little (expletive) like that, but you don’t want to call the obvious ones right in front of you. That’s it. I thought (Sengun) fouled a couple of times on that drive and layup and they didn’t want to call it. So I told him to get some (expletive) glasses and open his eyes’.
