In a recent interview with the Buyer Brothers Barcelona offensive midfielder Dani Olmo shared some interesting insights into his time so far at the club.
The 26-year-old Spanish national, a former La Masia trainee, returned to the club last summer, arriving from RB Leipzig, and quickly became an integral part of Hansi Flick’s squad.
During the interview, Olmo highlighted two young players, who are not yet part of the first team but have trained with the senior formation under Hansi Flick and have also done pre-season: cousins Fernandez, Guille and Toni.
‘Yes, yes,’ he noted. ‘A lot of quality, both of them. One is left-handed, the other is right-handed. And they are in the same team, at Barça Atletic. So much quality for 16-year-olds. Be careful.’
Olmo also revealed which is his favourite Barcelona star to play with and the one he feels the strongest bond with on the pitch.
‘Well, you already know,’ he began. ‘Pedri. He is very easy to play with. I mean, you look at him on the pitch and … he makes everything look easy with both feet. You know what I do? I take the ball and pass it to Pedri. That’s all.’
The Spanish national was also asked which Masia players have impressed him the most, referred to by this season’s emerging star Marc Casado.
‘Well, the one who surprised me the most, now that I know him a little better, was Casado,’ Olmo said. ‘I didn’t know him that well because last year he didn’t play much, but this year he has had more continuity and the level he is showing is spectacular.’
Besides individual names, Olmo was asked about the differences in mentality between a team like RB Leipzig and Barcelona, a club that is always a contender for everything, despite recent inconsistencies.
‘The mentality of the players is what sets it apart. Besides being a great club, it is a team that wants to win everything every year. A draw or a defeat is not acceptable; at Barça, it’s about winning, winning and winning every game,’ he concluded.
