Luka Dončić scored his 80th career triple-double with a season-high 45 points along with 13 assists and 11 rebounds, and the Dallas Mavericks beat Klay Thompson’s former Golden State Warriors 143-133 on Sunday night in a second visit to the Chase Center in just over a month.

The teams combined for an NBA record 48 triples. Golden State scored 27 and Dallas 21.

Thompson scored two late triples for a total of seven and finished with 29 points after the Mavericks lost 120-117 in his previous game against the team he won four NBA titles with.

‘It was very surreal,’ Thompson said of returning to face his old teammates. ‘Because I was 21 when I came here and seeing the city and the country is always special. So many good memories.’

His former Splash Brother Stephen Curry scored 26 points and 10 assists for Golden State in a game added to the schedule once the teams were eliminated from the NBA Cup. The Warriors lost by one point to Houston on Wednesday. Thompson said it was a pleasure to guard Curry.

‘It’s different, but I get more and more used to it every time we face each other,’ Thompson said. ‘We’ve tagged each other a lot of times during practice and practice games. You always appreciate the moments when you’re facing the better players. It’s nice to be able to say I tagged Steph the way I tagged Kobe [Bryant] and KD [Kevin Durant]. It’s another story I can tell.’

Dallas opened 14 of 19 to take a 39-18 lead before Draymond Green scored two consecutive triples. Green had season highs of five threes and 21 points.
