Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen gave advice to young Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw who is going through a tumultuous period in his career. Notably, Shaw was recently unsold at the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) mega auction despite keeping his base price at 75 lakh rupees.
Earlier, he had lost his place in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for their third-round clash against Tripura. However, he was finally called up to play in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25.
Sharing his thoughts on Shaw’s downfall, Kevin Pietersen said the young man needs to have good people around him to help him out of this phase. He also suggested the 25-year-old detach himself from social media and train hard to get in shape.
“Some of the greatest sports stories are RETURN stories. If Prithvi Shaw had good people around him who cared about his long-term success, they would sit him down, tell him to stay off social media and train his butt to get super fit.
It would get him back on the right track where past success can return. Too talented to throw it all away. Love, KP!!!” wrote Pietersen on his X account.
Meanwhile, Shaw’s poor form continued in SMAT when he went out for a duck in Mumbai’s Group E game against Services. The right-handed batsman was cleaned up by Poonam Poonia for a three-ball duck. Shaw has scored 96 runs from five games so far in the tournament with an average of 19.20 and a strike rate of 137.14.
His highest score of the season so far was against Nagaland where he played a good knock of 40 off 29 balls. Earlier, he had made a good start to his domestic season with a 76-run knock in the second inning of the Irani Cup.
However, he failed to continue his form and could only score 59 runs in two games in the Ranji Trophy before being ruled out due to fitness problems.
Therefore, Shaw will be eager to regain his form after getting the opportunity in SMAT and prove his detractors wrong with a better performance in the remaining domestic season.
